![]() Proposals for revision of the CONSALD constitution as on the Agenda of March 2010 According to the ByLaws: "Amendments to these bylaws may be proposed by the Executive Board or by a member of the Committee at regular meetings provided that written notice of the proposed amendment(s) is included in the announcement for that meeting." I (James Simon) request that this be included in the written notice of the meeting. The amendment I (James Simon) propose is to clarify Article IV to correctly reflect the change from 4 librarians elected by the membership to 3, and faculty positions from 3 to 2. Current language: Officers and Executive Board An Executive Board of the Committee shall consist of four librarians elected by the membership-at-large, three faculty members appointed by the South Asian Council and three ex-officio librarian members. The ten member Executive Board shall manage the activities of the Committee. Proposed Language: Officers and Executive Board
Background: As members may recall, in 2007 it was proposed to reduce the number of Executive positions and to extend the terms of office to 3 years. Amendments to Articles III and V were approved, but Article IV failed. In discussion, it was the consensus of the committee that a reduction to 3 elected members was desirable, but the proposed amendment failed because of the connected proposal to eliminate Ex Officio positions. The Amendment proposed reflects the principle described above (as well as our current practice) of having only 3 elected members. Back to the top |
