James and Mary -- this is in response to CRL's Call for Participants for the Cooperative Collection Development in South Asia Partnership Workshop scheduled for October 15th in Madison.
I have consulted with senior administrators at Duke, and I would like to confirm that the Duke University Libraries are interested in exploring cooperative collection development for South Asian materials and are prepared to consider reallocating a portion of the South Asian studies acquisitions budget (but not less than the $1000 minimal commitment mentioned in the Call) for a national cooperative plan. We also commit to providing the necessary travel funding. We do not, as yet, have a South Asian librarian in place, but I would like to confirm Duke's commitment.
(Given the June 1st response deadline and the Memorial Day holiday, email seemed the most practical way to respond. If you would also like me to send
a letter to this effect on Duke University Libraries letterhead, please let me know.)
